The first step when I got to London Holistic Dental Centre was to get my attachments. The way Invisalign works is that the aligners – the clear plastic trays – put gentle pressure on my teeth to move and straighten them. But sometimes teeth need to be moved or turned in a way that the plastic can’t grab, so they get some help from attachments: little tooth-colored bumps attached to certain teeth to help grab the aligners.
Dr. Cook took about an hour to place little attachments on my teeth. They’re hardly noticeable and getting them glued on was completely painless. When it was all done, my mouth felt distressed with all the extra guests in the house. At the beggining it felt strange and uncomfortable. And I worried about taking the aligners off on my own when I had to eat next.
The first thing I did was look in the mirror and smile. I was really surprised at how inconspicuous it was. No one would be able to tell I was wearing anything in my mouth unless they were like 10 inches from my face and studying my teeth whenever I smiled too widely.
When I left the surgery I couldn’t stop salivating. So I went home and braced myself. When it was lunch time, I sat in front of the mirror and started picking at my aligners. You can’t possibly imagine how tough it is to remove them until you’ve tried it yourself. I certainly wasn’t prepared for it to be that tough even though Dr. Cook had repeatedly warned me about it. But fortunately with some practice and patience you’ll became an expert!
My first week has been better than I was expecting! I’m very happy to report that I had no pain at all – no headaches, nothing! There was a lot of tightness for the first few days on my front top teeth, but not enough to make me uncomfortable.
